"Day length is important to a hens egg production. As winter approaches and the days start to shorten, egg production will reduce or even stop! To overcome this artificial light is used!"

Powered by 12-volts, the Rooster Booster can be used in hen houses where mains electricity is not available. Connected to a battery (not provided), the rooster booster will provide light throughout the winter months, making it viable to keep hens in more remote areas.

Monitoring the 24-hour pattern of natural light and dark, the Rooster Booster timer adjusts it self so that it only comes on when it is dark in a 15-hour period, thus maximising time between battery charges and ensuring that the hens enjoy the benefits of natural daylight. At the end of the day, after a short dimming time, a night period of 9-hours begins; no artificial light is provided during this time allowing the hens to roost.

Features

Controls and dims fluorescent lamps for large houses

Two short lighting periods rather than one long one

9-hour lamp off time for roosting

Variable light output for small houses

Self-regulating battery backed timer

Automatic end of day dimming

LED Status indicator

Batteries

Batteries intended for caravan or emergency lighting are the best type to use with the Rooster Booster Batteries intended for caravan or emergency lighting are the best type to use with the Rooster Booster, they are typically 85 amp-hour or more. It is recommended that you have two batteries so that you can have one in use and the other charging.

Times between charging are indicated with each model, please use these as a guide you will find out what suits your arrangement best from your own experience.

As a general rule heavier batteries contain more lead and have a higher Amp-hour rating, which will mean longer between charges.

Safety Notice

When charging a lead acid cell you should be aware that explosive hydrogen gas is produced so never smoke or use a naked flame near a charging battery and always turn off the charger before connecting /or disconnecting it.

Battery backed up timer

There is also a 9-volt PP3 battery, which maintains the timer cycle for up to 20-hours when the external power supply is removed. Under normal circumstances this should be renewed annually.

Solar power

Solar panels can be used to charge your 12-volt batteries. However unless you are prepared to invest large sums of money, you will probably only help to extend times between charging. We do not supply solar panels, so you will need to contact a specialist in this field who will advise you on the equipment you need.

Powering from the mains

The Rooster Booster can be powered from the main electricity supply using a 12-volt Mains Adaptor. see (Page 12)

8W 12v fluorescent lamp Specification

24mm deep, Polarity protected with Integral switch.

Using a high efficiency inverter, the fluorescent lamp produces very high levels of light for the power consumed. A recess at each end allows installation without lens removal, and the clip-on design means that tubes can be replaced without removing or dismantling the light. The switch is sunken into the lens to minimise height.

Includes terminal block conector and fixing screws.

12-volt Lighting for stables and outbuildings

Keeping animals in unlit remote building is fine in the summer when you have long days, but in the winter darkness it is not so good. Using a torch is cumbersome if you need your hands to work with. Some times you want to leave a light on so you do not disturb your animals by regular visits with your lamp and then leaving them in darkness until the next visit.

With the Barrow Lane Remote Building Light and a 12-volt battery you can set up a light that will solve these problems.

Connect the switched distribution box to your battery using crocodile clips, the + (red) cable is fitted with a 3A fuse for safety.

Mount the box on a wall or beam using the fixing screws provided.

The fluorescent 16-watts lamp is equivalent to about 50-watts normal lighting.

The switched distribution box is fitted with 2 output terminals; making it possible to attach up to 3 lamp units easily. (Maximum 4-Amps maximum)
